Nansen Dialogue Centre in Mostar in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Herzegovina Neretva Canton (HNC) have organized a seminar "How to improve the quality of the education system in HNC” in Neum.
Participants were representatives of the primary schools in Stolac and Čapljina, members of the HNC Government working group responsible for the implementation of the verdict in the case of "Two schools under one roof", Ms. Mary Ann Hennessey - the Head of the Office of the Council of Europe in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Steiner Bryn - Nansen Dialogue Network, Norway, Ms. Rahela Džidić – the U.S. Embassy in BiH, representatives of NDC Mostar and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
Prof. Steinar Bryn spoke on interethnic dialogue in divided communities, and the dialogue as a means of communication pointing to numerous examples of misunderstanding and prejudice with which European nations were confronted after World War II. He also was making parallel with the same or similar phenomena among peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina after the war.
Ms. Mary Ann Hennessey gave a presentation on the educational models in ethnically mixed communities in Europe and stressed the necessity of dialogue and cooperation in local communities such as Stolac and Čapljina. Hennessey also discussed a number of issues, tipical for Stolac and Čapljina, with the school representatives and once again pointed out the necessity for greater cooperation, compromise and dialogue in those municipalities.
In the future, Nansen Dialogue Center Mostar in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports will continue to organize more seminars and workshops on the topic.
