My Contribution To Peace - Round Table and 2013 Peace Calendar Launch

Nansen Dialogue Centre Serbia and Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) organised a round table called "My Contribution to Peace" and the 2013 Peace Calendar Launch on Thursday, 20 December. The the round table was organised on the occasion of launching the Peace Calendar and in order to underline the results of the activities aimed to prevent violence in schools and build sustainable peace in Serbia and the region.

The opening presentations:

  • Ms Biljana Lajović, Coordinator of the Violence Prevention Unit of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development
  • Ms Tamara Lukšić Orlandić, Deputy Ombudsman for children's rights
  • Ms Tatjana Popović, Director of NDC Serbia.


After the opening presentations and a discussion on the topic My Contribution to Peace, Ms Maja Vitas from NDC Serbia presented the regional arts competition titled "My Contribution to Peace" which was organised for students of primary and secondary schools whose works illustrate the 2013 Peace Calendar. The arts competition "My Contribution to Peace" was supported by Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Montenegro.

It is for the third time that Nansen Dialogue Centre Serbia and Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) for the Western Balkans organised the arts competition for students of primary and secondary schools on the occasion of the International Day of Peace (21 September). The topic of this year's arts competition was "My Contribution to Peace". Schools, teachers and students were invited to join the celebration of the International Day of Peace by participating in the arts competition.

Teachers, principals, psychologists and pedagogues had been invited to prepare the students for their participation in the competition by talking to them about the International Day of Peace and about the importance of each individual's contribution to non-violent conflict resolution and sustainable peacebuilding.

The Objectives of the competition were:

  • To introduce students to the idea of the International Day of Peace;
  • To encourage students to find creative ways in which they as individuals can contribute to peace;
  • To encourage a discussion on the importance of each individual's contribution to non-violent conflict resolution and sustainable peace building;
  • To contribute to the security of people, tolerance and reconciliation in the Western Balkans.

In this year's competition, we received over 500 artworks from students of primary and secondary schools from the Western Balkan region. The thirteen winning artworks illustrate the 2013 Peace Calendar.
